There are currently openings in the laboratory for undergraduate research assistants who are interested in obtaining CREDIT HOURS for research projects.  Several courses in ECOLOGY AND EVOLUTIONARY BIOLOGY as well as MICROBIOLOGY offer interested undergraduates the opportunity to gain hands on lab experience while earning credits.  Interested students should contact Dr. Wilhelm prior to the beginning of the semester they wish to enroll for.

Space is often limited, so plan ahead.

CURRENT RESEARCH PROJECTS:   

While we are always open to entertaining new and innovative research projects, there are openings in the following ongoing studies in the laboratory. 

1. Identification of novel viral and bacterial pathogens for freshwater and marine phytoplankton and bacterioplankton.

2. Whole genomic approaches to studying the physiology, toxicology and proliferation of the toxic phytoplankton Microcystis spp.

3. Molecular techniques for the in situ assessment of nutrient stress.
