Intersterility Groups
Petersen (1995) presented guidelines for establishing a reference library of tester strains of Pleurotus taxa, and Vilgalys et al (1996) supported and extended these ideas. Vilgalys et al. (1993, 1996), and Vilgalys and Sun (1994) gave numbers to various intersterility groups within the genus, with those intersterility groups generally congruent to morpho-taxonomic taxa.
