1 Agaricus vaginatus text is page 664 (not in UTK library; RHP index (publ. 100) reports that pp 541-700 date from 1812 (and should be cited as Bulliard apud Ventenat). Both plates (pl. 98, 512) are available on-line (Librifungorum). Pl. 98 shows an essentially white or very pale mushroom with narrowly clasping volva resembling an insect pupa beneath a Cordyceps. Only a small vestige of color shows on the plate. Conversely, plate 512 shows the fungus much more adequately, with membranous tan volva. It would appear that both forms (fulva, livida) are in the plate (central individual with dark gray pileus, others with ruddy brown pileus).
