Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Center
Welcome to the Advanced Microscopy and Imaging Center at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. The Center is a multi-user, multi-disciplinary facility that provides microscopy and imaging services in support of teaching and research for students, faculty and staff. Developed originally as a Division of Biology core resource, the Center now provides these services to many academic units on the main campus, the Institute of Agriculture, the College of Veterinary Medicine and the University of Tennessee Medical Research Center and Hospital, Knoxville. The strength of the Facility lies both in the collection of instrumentation and the technical expertise of faculty and staff associated with the facility.
The Center is a 9000 sq ft. research laboratory located in the Science and Engineering Research Facility on the main campus of the University of Tennessee. It houses instrumentation for; transmission and scanning electron microscopy; optical microscopy including wide field epi-fluorescence, total internal reflection microscopy and laser scanning confocal microscopy; and atomic force microscopy. For the experienced microscopist the Center is an instrument resource. For the novice user, the Center offers complete technical support, individual training and courses that cover both the practical applications and physical principles of microscopy.
The Center operates as a recharge facility and fees are assessed for consumables, equipment use, and staff support. The Center provides microscopy and specimen preparation services for biological and materials science research. In addition, the center offers training for all instruments and ancillary equipment to faculty, staff, and students of the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Courses which cover both the physical principles and practical applications of microscopy are offered through the Facility.
