BCMB Undergraduate Majors
We are fortunate to have a local Undergraduate Affiliate Network (UAN) of the American Association for Biochemistry and Molecular Biology (ASBMB). This undergraduate honor society hosts events and outreach activities. To learn more, contact the student organizer Ryan Rickels or the faculty sponsor Elias Fernandez.
Welcome to the Undergraduate Program in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology (BCMB). Students wishing to study the function of cells and organisms at the molecular level elect to major in biological sciences with a concentration in Biochemistry and Cellular and Molecular Biology. The curriculum prepares students for a variety of careers in biological research, biotechnology, the health professions or education. BCMB is one of three biology majors that share a common core curriculum; the other biology majors are Ecology and Evolutionary Biology (EEB) and Micriobiology. You can learn more about the core courses and the faculty who plan and teach these courses on the website for the General Biology Program.
Undergraduate research is an integral component of education in BCMB - affording undergraduates the opportunity to gain skills and experience that will be valuable in any career path. If you are interested in gaining research experience in BCMB, check out the departmental undergraduate research web page and summer research opportunities for undergraduates.
