Each year the department recognizes outstanding graduate students who have excelled in research and teaching.

The following awards were given in May of 2011:

The Holton Plant Science Award recognizes a PhD student working in the plant sciences area who demonstrates excellence in scholarship and research. The 2011 winner is Ansul Lokdarshi who works in the laboratory of Dr. Dan Roberts.

The Wright Research Award recognizes a graduate student in the BCMB program who demonstrates leadership and excellence in scholarship and research. The 2011 winner is Shaofei Zhang who works with Dr. Mariano Labrador.

The Kouns Excellence in Teaching Award honors an outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant in the BCMB department who demonstrates a commitment to teaching and a distinguished record in this role. The 2011 winner is Pintu Massalkar who works in Dr. Dan Roberts' laboratory.
